Are you looking for some service projects you can do over the summer? As a community we are working to complete 100K service hours. Let’s all do our part to make a difference in the lives of those around us. Find out more about our service initiative!
Here are 10 things you can do. Grab your friends and get moving!
Stuff Envelopes – Reach out to local pregnancy resource center and ask if they need any assistance. Often organizations that rely on donors will have lots of envelopes to stuff.
Dust, Clean, Organize – My life group participated in a cleaning and landscaping project with a local pregnancy resource center. We dusted, organized, weeded and handled general landscaping. You could even do this for a neighbor that needs help!
Meals – It is very easy to make a meal for a new mom or someone who has just had surgery or is down and out for awhile. Ask around your church for some opportunities.
Litter Cleanup – Sign up to clean along the highway or just pop over to your local park and pick up! Others may see you cleaning up the area and just jump in to help.
Food Bank – Offer to help at your local food bank or buy some items from the grocery store to donate.
Send a care package to deployed troops, veterans, or wounded soldiers. Write a thank-you letter and include some food (no homemade or canned food allowed). If you’re under 18, make sure to sign your letter with your first name only. Take a look at Operation Gratitude or Give2TheTroops to learn what to donate and who to send it to.
Good at sewing or knitting? Donate homemade blankets to people in need. Take a look at knit-a-square.com or Project Linus.
Homeless Packs – Create a few zip lock bags worth of items that you can keep in your car to hand out as you pass by homeless people. What I love about this is that your kids will see you helping when they are in the car with you. It is a great conversation starter.
Volunteer at Church – If your church is anything like mine there is always a shortage of volunteers. Help in the nursery, at the upcoming picnic, in VBS – anywhere! Just get in there and do your part.
Card Writing Campaign – Go through your address book and do an encouragement campaign. Send letters, notes or little gifts to people in your life that could use a smile.
Babysitting – have some friends who need a date night. Call them up to offer to watch their kids for free. What a blessing!
Chances are while you were reading this list you started thinking…’oh, I already do some of these.’ We want to hear your service stories. How does it change your life when you serve? How does it change those you are serving? Tell us what you are doing and how many hours. Collectively I know we can reach 100K hours! Let’s do this.
