Sherri and Sarah talk about being on a mission to sprinkle faith with a big dose of laughter and joy for Christian women at the upcoming Snacks & Good Company LIVE Women’s Event. Sherri believes that laughter is a form of faith and isn’t afraid to use humor to dive into those tricky church topics. Together, they share how God sees the beauty in imperfection, aiming to spread love and happiness among women through events that mix humor with heartfelt messages. Sherri’s stand-up comedy routines even take on the topics of aging and physical hurdles with a hilarious twist! We hope you’ll join us May 9th at Evergreen Church in Bothell!
The event is powered by our friends at Vision House

Sherri:
With women, there’s just sort of a comradery, and I do my best to talk about things that we don’t necessarily get to talk about, specifically in church Christian women. We don’t get to talk about certain things that we’re all going through together and we don’t necessarily talk about it. And so I get to talk about that and be funny about it hopefully, and still kind of weave a scripture into it. Believe it or not, believe it or not, believe it or not, Sarah. I can do it. I do it. I do do it.
Sarah:
Well, I know you can.
Sherri:
I do it.
Sarah:
I’m thankful that you do because I think that laughter is a great equalizer.
Sherri:
Yeah. Laughter is a complete and total act of faith because you know what you’re going through when you come to this. Not everyone’s floating on a cloud when they come to these women’s events, right? You know what you left at home. You know what? So, to be able to laugh I think is an act of faith to say, “Yeah, I know what I went through, but God no. It has that under control. I can come here and laugh and enjoy myself and know that he’s taking care of everything else that pertains to me.” And so, that’s why I’ve always rejected the notion that laughter is the antithesis of spirituality. I think that it is the proof of faith, that it’s the proof of spirituality, that is the proof of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I really do believe that. People have, believe it or not, hired me to come do comedy and then dared me to make them laugh. It’s like some kind of, well, we’ll do this and then we’ll get to the spiritual stuff. I do think laughter is the spiritual stuff for me.
Sarah:
Oh, I do too. A hundred percent to that. Another aspect of this evening is focusing on how God delights in us. That’s kind of a novel concept for some people. We’ve got the head knowledge, but we don’t necessarily have the heart knowledge.
Sherri:
I think it’s hard for us to accept it because we don’t necessarily delight in ourselves. We know us more than other people know us, and so we have that face forward “us” that we give to people, but we know us, us. And so that’s not particularly delightful if we’re honest. So then to know that he knows us like that and delights in us, and not only does he delight in us, but he tells us in Hebrews the way that we’re supposed to come to him is boldly. He knows us. We stand before him with nothing on. We’re just completely just open. And he says, come boldly to me because that’s how much he loves us. That’s how much he wants us. That’s how much he desires us in his presence. And again, that’s another reason for joy is because that’s how much he wants us in his presence. That’s how much he delights over us.
Sarah:
I’m just convinced that when we spend an evening really taking hold of that together as a group, it creates that sort of unstoppable “God is for me who can be against, I can do anything.” You leave feeling so emboldened to go back to all that stuff that you left at home, but with a fresh perspective.
Sherri:
I hope so. That’s always the goal. That’s why whenever I’m a part of women’s events, I’m really adamant that it’s not like, I think because we are who we are as women, we want an emotional moment sometimes, and I’m always adamant that it’s not this kind of weepy fallout kind of thing. No, I want you to, in Nehemiah, Sarah, one of my favorite things is when they get done building the wall, and then they all go to this little, the equivalent like a church meeting kind of thing. And Ezra the prophet starts reading the Old Testament and they all start crying and it’s just weepy. And Nehemiah comes and he’s like, stop! He’s like, Hey, listen, the joy of the Lord is your strength. That’s where he gets that. And he tells everyone, stop here. Leave. Go have a party. Essentially, he tells them, get cake. Get something sweet to drink. If people don’t have it, get shared with them. The joy of the Lord is your strength. And so that’s why I believe when we come together like this, that joy is so palpable and that it gives us strength to go back and deal with whatever we’re dealing with in our everyday life. That joy, I think I know, will be there that night to strengthen you for whatever you need to face.
Sarah:
What are some of the topics that you’re going to cover in your standup comedy?
Sherri:
Oh, it’s such…uh good getting older. Some of our physical challenges as women. I’ll leave it at that and we’ll just know our common physical challenges as women that we don’t always talk about in mixed company, but we will talk about it in a very funny way that night. And then, yeah, getting older. What does that mean? Looking in the Bible and seeing how women handled themselves when they got a little older and some of their physical challenges and for good or for ill, how some of the ladies in the Bible handled themselves and what we can learn from that. And yeah, we’ll just have fun talking about our commonalities and how Jesus loves us through all of those.
Sarah:
And you sort of touched on this a little bit ago, but just to close us out, what do you hope someone who attends takes away from the evening?
Sherri:
Pure joy. He loves us. And I say it all the time, but I really do mean it, if he is the Alpha and he’s the Omega, we believe that, if he started it and he ends it, then on some level, Sarah, the middle’s got to be funny. We know he started it and we know he’s going to end it. We got to be able to find joy in the middle because we know that he ultimately, he’s for us. And so being there with you gals and all of us kind of laughing and having a good time, I just pray joy just fills women all the way up and they can go back. Yeah, just filled with joy.
