Erica:
The Seattle Times is reporting that Seattle is the least religious large city in America, but I have so much hope for the Emerald City. Let’s talk about it on Faith Filter. I’m Erica with Pastor Jesse from Grace Community Church in Auburn, Washington. He’s also the host of a fantastic podcast that I highly recommend called The Bonfire on Purposely. Pastor Jesse, I just believe, and I know you’re on this team too, that we can flip this script, that we can be the city that has the most people in relationship with Jesus. What do you say?
Pastor Jesse:
Absolutely! It’s helpful sometimes to get a reality check and to get some numbers, some facts, because we have that sense as we live here in the Sound. And it’s good to know like, yep, that’s the current reality. And I think there’s a challenge in that. What are we doing that needs to change? And it could be some repentance. It also could be fresh vision and fresh hope. And I think of that story of Elijah in the cave. He’s kind of discouraged. Jezebel is loud, intimidating, and he’s on the run. And there God meets him in a cave. So don’t be silent. Don’t be in the cave. God says, What are you doing here? And it’s a good question, what are we doing here in Seattle? And it’s like, God reminds him. I’ve got 7,000 people all around. I’ve got a remnant. It’s exciting. What an opportunity.
I grew up with. No Bible, no Christianity, didn’t know about Jesus, didn’t go to church, and that’s who lives in Seattle. So many people like that. And I want to connect with those people. I want to share Jesus with those people. And I think the message for me being a pastor and thinking about our churches is that we need all hands on deck. And the truth is, everyone is in full-time ministry. Everyone is an ambassador of Jesus. And this is a time for churches to unite. This is a time for us to be courageous and to trust God. The story’s not over. God is going to do great things in Seattle. God loves to show up in the most unlikely places, and you think, well, what would be the most unlikely city to see the hope of Jesus just saturate the place? It’s like right here where we live. So, let’s go and God can do it. Have faith, believe God and just be faithful in the small things. God will do the big things, but there’s a big turnaround coming for Seattle. I believe that with all my heart.
Erica:
I’m right there with you, brother. Thank you for sharing the love of Jesus the way you do.
Pastor Jesse:
That’s it. Keep walking by faith, Erica.
