When my first child was born, I looked into his beautiful eyes and knew that I never wanted to make any mistakes with him. Part of me knew that was impossible, but another part really, really wanted to be the perfect parent. Of course, you know how this story goes…
I’ve made plenty of mistakes since then and I don’t think there’s a mother alive that doesn’t think she could’ve done a better job of parenting. Have you ever had one of those times that you acted in exactly the opposite way that you wanted to? I’ve had to apologize to my kids so many times that they must be sick of it. But, you know what? They are always so gracious and forgiving with me, more than I feel like I deserve.
As much as I want perfection in parenting and other areas of my life, like a clean house, organized everything, staying within budget, actually having a budget… it’s absolutely unattainable. There’s really only one perfect One and that’s Jesus. He understands when we come up short and He’s made a way for us.
