A few years ago, we had to do a strict elimination diet for our son Ethan. It was exhausting. I was so overwhelmed and emotional. When someone went out of their way to help me I usually cried from gratitude. When I see something like the Teal Pumpkin Project, my heart is reminded of what such a simple gesture means to a family who deals with this on a daily basis. What a beautiful way to show hospitality to friends and neighbors with a food allergy. The teal pumpkin says ‘I not only see you, but I care.’
You can create your own teal pumpkin with this DIY tutorial. FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) also has a stencil on their site you can use.
If you participate, you can add your house to FARE’s crowd-sourced map so that trick-or-treaters with allergies can tell, in their neighborhoods, which houses to connect with.
