Are you getting frustrated at your water bill? Trying to find ways to reduce those monthly expenses? Well, take a look and see if you are doing these 10 things to keep that water bill down.
Check for leaks. Leaks are not good, we know this. Walk around, check your pipes and faucets, and make sure you aren’t losing some water to leaks!
Turn off the water. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times, but are you doing it? Turn off the water while you brush your teeth. Don’t take a super long shower! If the kids love to play in the water, control how much they are spraying the hose or filling the tub.
Install shower-heads that are considered water-saving as well as faucet aerators. These aren’t very expensive. Call us and we can give you some recommendations. We want to help you save money!
Minimize use of your garbage disposal. Did you know that it takes a lot of water to make the garbage disposal operate effectively? Think about starting a compost pile as an alternate method to food waste.
Keep drinking water in the fridge. Running the water for a long period of time to cool it off isn’t great for saving water. So, keep a pitcher in the fridge. It’ll be colder anyway and way more refreshing!
Insulate your water pipes. You might think of insulating only in the winter time, but insulating your pipes can help you get hot water faster so you don’t have to wait so long while the water is heating.
Always full loads. Don’t run your dishwasher or washing machine for one or two items. Wait until you have a ful load.
Don’t flush things that shouldn’t be flushed. Use the toilet for what it was designed for and don’t add extra flushings.
Plant drought-resistent shrubs & Plants. Avoid planting things that use a ton of water. This works the best if you have work to do in the yard rather than having to replace everything you already have. If updating your yard isn’t a possibility then just choose to water when it is really needed.
Add mulch. Mulch helps slow the evaporation of moisture. This is a good thing to add around trees and plants.
How many of these things are you already doing? What do you need to work on? We’d love to help you save water and fix any leaks you uncover. Give us a call!
