Ugh. I call it my “junior high reaction.” It happens when someone says something or does something that brings me right back to those feelings of insecurity and rejection I felt in the tween years, and then I start thinking and reacting the same way I did back then. It doesn’t have to be much. I can feel that way when I see a bunch of my friends having a great time on Facebook or Instagram or not being invited to a party.
I was talking with some friends the other day and the subject of high school proms came up. When asked about my prom, I was embarrassed to say that I didn’t go to mine because I hadn’t been asked. Those feelings of being unwanted and not being good enough came rushing right back.
Do you ever feel that way? It’s funny how years later, even though we’ve matured and grown, some little thing can provoke those hurt feelings and we realize that…wow…we really haven’t gotten over that after all. And while I’m still a work in progress, I’m here to tell you that we are all very wanted by God. YOU are very wanted by God. Just like the dad of the prodigal son, He’s running toward you with open arms, ready to embrace you with His love and healing. You can trust your hurting heart to Him. And when He embraces you, get ready for a party bigger and better than any prom might have been.

1 John 3:1 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Ephesians 3:18-19 – …together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
