The weather is changing and a chill is in the air. It’s time to get that roof ready for the season ahead. Here are 4 tips to get your roof prepared for Winter.
Check Your Roofline
If you see any signs of dipping, curving or sagging it is time to look into what is causing it. Any sagging that is present can be a sign of concern in the framing or structure. You don’t want to go into the Winter season with any damage that could be made worse with heavy rains.
Remove Debris
Do you notice a lot of debris on your roof? Time to clean it off. If you have a lot of trees around your house, this is a great time to trim those branches and make sure they aren’t falling on your roof. Clean the gutters as well to make sure that water isn’t getting stuck.
Check the Chimney Flashing
The strip of metal that seals the intersection of the chimney and the roof is a common spot for leaks to begin. Take a minute to make sure the flashing doesn’t appear loose or damaged in any way. Is the caulk holding? Are there cracks or any deterioration?
Attic
You might not want to, but checking the attic for water damage is a great way to make sure you catch leaks right when they start. It’s important to call for a professional inspection if you notice any leaking.
