The Lord cares for you! ❤️ A few weeks ago, Makayla turned 18… and at the same time, her life turned upside down. Her battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma began and since then, Jesus has given Makayla a new lens on life. She’s seeing everything with new eyes and He’s showing this brave young woman that He sees her. Makayla’s mom Becky is a teacher at King’s Schools, our sister ministry. Our awesome team arranged for her daughter to meet a couple rockstars in Kent on Saturday. Makayla was overjoyed to hang out with Mac Powell and TobyMac backstage! A rockstar herself, she fit right in with her megawatt smile and bright outlook. Her mom got to come too! May this post remind you… God sees you in the midst of your battle!
You are Loved, Erica, on behalf of the entire SPIRIT 105.3 team
Makayla’s mom, Becky, posted this journal entry after the concert:
Makayla and I had the BEST time last night at the concert!!! First we met Erica from Spirit 105.3 (in the red sweater). She is soooo sweet!! She let us know that our seats were right up front!!! Then we heard we were to meet her during the intermission and we would be escorted backstage!!! We were pinching ourselves as we walked way up to the front, in the 4th row on the floor!!! We met the nicest ladies next to us. One of them also has cancer and is going through treatment!! During the intermission, we met Erica and were escorted backstage! First we saw TobyMac walking toward us casually. Then he came up to us with a smile and fist bumped us! 🤩 Makayla shared her story with him, and he gave her some words of encouragement. He autographed his new cd that we bought. And we got pics with him!! 😱 Then Mac Powell came out and Makayla shared her story with him and his daughter. She was really sweet and prayed over Makayla. 😢 We also chatted with him and got pics with him, his daughter (guitarist/singer) and son-in-law (drummer). He is known for his song “Soul on Fire” from when he was with the band “Third Day”. And Toby Mac used to be in the band “DC Talk” back in the day. I will put more pics and videos in the gallery (we got a ton). The concert was amazing. We truly feel so blessed to have had this experience!! Thank you, Lord!! 🙏
Catch hope & encouragement with Erica on weekday mornings from 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM, and Sundays from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM.

He is going to be singing Live tomorrow night with TobyMac and Kent. It is Mac Powell on SPIRIT 105.3. I’m Erica and oh. Get ready to get inspired right now because Makayla is hanging out with us on the show. She’s actually a student at King Schools, one of our sister ministries. The school is right here on our campus. And Makayla, welcome to the show. I know you’ve been going through a lot lately, but yet God has been with you. What’s been going on, hun?
Makayla:
So, three weeks ago I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. That was crazy ’cause I also turned 18 at the same time. Wow. My life basically flipped upside down. Before that, I was stressing so much mentally with school. I feel like having such a different kind of stress has made it so that God has really shown me life through a different lens, and stressing about something that not anybody else my age or around me is stressing about, has really shown me how the little things are important. I mean, school was my highest stressor to now, it is one of the least stressful things because now I’m fighting to stay healthy. And I think God showed me the priority of my own life, rather than of what other people think I should be stressing about.
Erica:
Girl, you are amazing. God has a way of putting things into perspective, and you will carry that for the rest of your life. And I know that you know you’re going to the big TobyMac show this Saturday night. I’m really hoping to get to meet you there to see you at the booth. I want to give you a gigantic hug, and I want to let you know that we’ve got a backstage pass for you to meet Mac Powell from Third Day. Well wait, there’s more because Makayla, you’re also going to meet TobyMac backstage.
Makayla:
Wait, you’re kidding, right? Really. I’ve been listening to TobyMac for as long as I can remember. This is a prank call, right?
Erica:
No girl. God is blessing you right now. He wants you to know he sees you in the midst of this battle.
Makayla:
Thank you so much.
Erica:
Oh, Mikayla. You’re welcome. Here’s some TobyMac. Get excited girl. You’re going to meet him tomorrow.
