Thank you for joining our “14-Day Download of Hope” series. Today, I want to tell you about an unlikely woman that God rescued from an impossible situation.
Yesterday we talked about how God breaks down walls. Remember the impenetrable wall of Jericho that God knocked down for his people? Everyone inside that wall perished … except one woman and her family. Here’s how God explains it …
“By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.” Hebrews 11:31
Of all the people in Jericho to save, would you have chosen a prostitute? Rahab lived on the fringe of society as an outcast. We may think there was no way she deserved God’s blessing. But God looked past all of Rahab’s sin and saw her heart. And in her heart, there was a longing for him! When God sees a heart like Rahab’s, he runs to the rescue! Her welcome of God’s spies and her request to be saved was all it took for God to save her entire family when the rest of her city perished.
What an amazing story! But you know what? That isn’t the end of her story! Guess who Rahab became? The great-grandmother of King David … and one of five women the Bible lists in the lineage of Jesus!
That’s Redemption with a capital “R”. So today, if you feel unworthy of God’s grace, just think about Rahab. Not because you’re better than her, but because God has this same Redemption for you! God looks past all the things you think make you unworthy of his love, and he loves you anyway! If you need rescuing from anything today, just ask. He’s ready to do it!
