Only one month left in Campbell Nelson’s Kid’s to Camp campaign. So far, Campbell Nelson has raised over $38,000, over half way of their goal! Read about one foster kid’s experience at camp this summer:
This summer, an Olive Crest kid was treated to a very special camp experience. Sarah, 9, has high behavioral and safety needs that had prevented her from attending camp in the past. This year, however, Cedar Springs Camp assigned a camp counselor just for Sarah, allowing her to experience summer camp safely for the first time. The experience turned out to be life changing. While at camp, Sarah made three new friends, which was a huge achievement for a child who struggled in social situations and had trouble making new connections. Sarah was able to share her love of drawing and painting with other campers, which helped boost her self-confidence. She said that one of her favorite moments was helping build a campfire for the first time and using the ash after they put it out to make a drawing. At camp, Sarah was finally able to release her energy in a positive way through play and activities. Thanks to our generous supporters, Sarah will always treasure her first camp experience, and she can use the new skills and confidence that she gained for a long time to come.
