We Don't Have An Excuse

I always want to sing The Brady Bunch theme song when I think of my brother’s family: “Here’s the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very handsome sons. All of them had hair of .... “ “Here’s the story of a man named Oscar who was busy with a daughter of his own … “ “Till the one day when the lady met this fellow and they knew that it was much more than a hunch that this group would somehow form a family. That’s the way they all became the …” (You get the idea). But, when you hear “the rest of the story”, Osc and Deb make The Brady Bunch look pretty lame in comparison! My brother was a single dad with full custody of his teen-aged daughter when he met his wife-to-be. She had three sons of her own. They only had a few more years of child-rearing until they were DONE raising kids. It could have been all smooth sailing after that. Instead, they announced that they were adopting. Read more...

Bosom Buddies

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and pink items have begun popping up everywhere. They serve as the perfect reminder to honor the amazing people (men get breast cancer too) in our lives who have battled the disease. Last Saturday three of my survivor friends met me at Big Fish Grill in Woodinville for a luncheon celebrating … THEM! Read more...

My Secret Life As A Spice Girl

Fall is here! I love Fall. It is by far my favorite season. While the rest of my sun-worshipping family whines and complains about the weather change, I am doing happy dances of joy. Summer is just so full of guilt. While everyone else is outside hiking, paddle boarding and swimming, I am inside hiding from the heat and feeling guilty because I’m not outside. Fall, on the other hand, is so dark and rainy that I don’t feel the least bit bad about being inside. My pale, introverted self can languish under a blanket with a good book, a cup of tea, and some comfort food. This is the time for cool days, colorful leaves, and pumpkins just begging to be made into yummy desserts. Read more...

Given 2 Weeks To Live

What if you could find out how long you had left on this earth? Would you want to know? And, if you did find out, how would it change your priorities? What would be important to you and what would fade from your to-do lists? Last Saturday, our cousin wasn’t given the option to decide whether he wanted to know or not. He was just told flat out that he had two weeks to live. Diagnosed with cancer only a few days earlier, he went from being seemingly healthy to terminally ill without any stops in between. Being A Mom Is Exhausting

Let’s face it, being a mom is exhausting. Moms (and women in general) wear so many different hats, and to make matters worse, we seem to be wired to try to be perfect in each of the roles we perform. No wonder we’re worn out! allmomdoes is focusing on refreshment this week. Doesn’t that sound peaceful and wonderful? I thought so too. Read more...

“Lord, please … give them a friend.”

As I drive down the country roads in my town during the morning hours, I see children standing by the road waiting for their school buses. The younger ones look tiny and scared in their bulky backpacks. The older ones try to look nonchalant as they face the stresses that the new school year will bring. My heart gives a lurch and I always pray the same prayer over each one of them: “Lord, please … give them a friend.” Read more...

Become Like Little Children

A few weeks ago, we were having a barbecue party when a heavy rainstorm hit from out of nowhere. My little granddaughter, Anitra, said, “Let’s Dance!” And, you should have seen the adults rushing outside to dance like nuts in the pouring rain. We were all kids again and, it was fun! Read more...

Meals That Work When You Are Tired

Lately, I’ve noticed a common thread when I talk to young mothers … they are tired! Juggling jobs, housework, other commitments, plus KIDS, means that by the time dinner rolls around, they’re too tired to eat (much less menu plan and cook). This exhaustion is not just reserved for young moms either. Grandmas are working longer than they ever have before and many of us provide babysitting to help our kids out. It seems like we’re all overcommitted and overtired. So, I’m sharing my favorite way to make sure I have protein in the house and a simple, easy way to create a meal. Read more...
