Jen Ervig from the Grove Church in Marysville shares with Erica about the church’s ministry, Champions Club, which caters to children with special needs. This Sunday was an absolutely moving experience when one of the Champion kids got baptized. In order to accommodate the child’s sensitivity to noise, instead of cheering, the congregation snapped their fingers in celebration!

Spirit 105.3. Good morning. It’s Erica here to warm up your heart. And I’m not alone. My friend Jen, from the Grove Church in Marysville is with us. How you doing girl?
Sarah:
Well, Monday, you know.
Erica:
But you’re here and you’ve got a laugh in your voice.
Sarah:
Always got to have joy. Can’t lose that.
Erica:
That’s right. So I’m scrolling through social media last night and I saw the beautiful thing that happened at your church. And you know I’m texting you immediately, Jen, you got to come on the show. What happens?
Sarah:
Girl, I am inspired. So, we have had a ministry at our church for goodness, it’s been a year or two now, and it’s called Champions Club. And this is for our differently abled kiddos who have unique needs. And it has just taken off and flourished to the point that our first champion kiddo got baptized yesterday. This child had needs where we had to be kind of sensitive to noise. And so, the worship band brought it down way low, way low. He got baptized and everybody, instead of a applauding and cheering like you normally do, we snapped. But I tell you, the roar in heaven that accompanied my heart with those snaps was just phenomenal, because we were celebrating this child in the way God made him. And we all got to be a part of that and it brought us together.
Erica:
And what about the little boy? What was the expression on his face like?
Sarah:
Oh my gosh. He was serene, and he had a smile, and he was just the cutest little thing.
Erica:
How beautiful is that? I’m just certain that God was snapping too.
