A picture really is worth a thousand words. Someone snapped a picture days ago that is telling a powerful story about what it means to be part of a hardworking American family. On Saturday, one man wrapped up a long, hard shift in the coal mine and didn’t hit the shower. He picked up his son (who aims to be a coal miner when he grows up) and they hustled to watch the Kentucky Wildcats play. Someone took a photo of them…. the son, excited and scrubbed clean, and the father, covered in soot from the mine. John Calipari, Head Coach for the Wildcats, was so inspired that he posted these words on social media:
“My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home. From what I’ve been told, after his shift, he raced to be with his son & watch our team. Don’t know who this is, but I have tickets for him & his family at Rupp to be treated as VIPs!!”
Now we know the man’s name – Michael McGuire – and his wife Mollie is our special guest today. Join Mollie and Erica for a conversation about hard work, family, sacrifice… and how it all boils down to love.
