A few months ago, I found myself in John 6 and as I was rereading the familiar stories, things were just sticking out to me a bit differently than they had before and here is what I learned:
In John 6 we see Jesus miraculously feed 5000 people with 5 barley loaves and 2 fish. The crowd was so sure He was the prophet that they began to follow him. Then through a series of conversations with the people, Jesus says that they were only following him because of what they thought he could or would give them and when they were presented with the truth of who He was and what following him meant, they turned away and left him. Once they left, Jesus turned to his disciples and asked, “do you want to go away as well?” and Simon-Peter’s response is possibly one of my favorites ever- He says,” Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the eternal words of life, and we have believed and come to know that you are the holy one of God.”
When I read this, I just know that the disciples understood what being a follower of Jesus was all about. They were 100% bought in and believed that there was nothing else that could satisfy their hearts like Jesus could. Jesus was truly enough for them. I know for me, there are areas in my life where it’s a bit harder to say that He is enough. But the truth is, He’s the only one that satisfies.
When I don’t get the job I want- Jesus is still enough. When I don’t have the perfect relationships- Jesus is still enough. When I don’t have what they have- Jesus is still enough. Whatever it is- Jesus is still enough and He has proven that time and time again.
Friend, I know we are in a strange season but lean into him. You have the holy one of God on your side and He loves you more than we can even fathom.
