Ashley’s son, Ryder was in a scooter accident which resulted in his front permanent tooth being knocked out. Listen to what happened!
Witnessing your child have an accident that costs them their permanent front teeth as a young child is difficult for any parent, as it can mean costly and painful procedures for dental implants to maintain your child’s smile. Many parents might not know that it is possible to re-insert a permanent tooth that has been knocked out, as long as you are able to quickly reach a skilled pediatric dentist and know what to do with the tooth while you are on your way to the emergency dental visit. Parents should put the permanent lost tooth into a glass of milk immediately after the accident. Root surface cells cannot tolerate tap water for extended periods of time. Milk is a good medium for storing knocked-out teeth because cells from the root surface don’t swell up and burst as they do when placed in water. Other alternatives are using an emergency tooth preservation kit such as “Save-a-tooth,” replacing the lost tooth in the socket temporarily or holding it in your cheek in your mouth. Having a child hold a tooth in their cheek after an injury may be a difficult task and that is why a glass of milk is a safe and good alternative.
