Giving is contagious and fun! And it’s not as hard as you may think it is. There are simple things we can do to brighten someone’s day that make all the difference. We’ve come up with 10 ways for you to Give Life to those around you. Read through our list and leave a comment with other ways you’ve found to give!
- Praying is always #1 on our list. Pray for your family, your neighbors, your greater community, and for SPIRIT. We all need prayer! And there’s nothing more powerful that you can do because when you pray you are asking the most powerful One of all to act in the lives of those you pray for. Listen as you enter prayer, and then give the Lord all that comes to your mind and is on your heart. You will be amazed at what follows this simple act of giving.
- Volunteer – what are you passionate about? Education? Helping the homeless? Providing comfort to immigrants? There are dozens of organizations that need your help! A quick google search will give you a list and you can take it from there by calling to set up an appointment and find out more.
- Take coffee and donuts to your civil servants – they will be encouraged that you appreciate all they do and they will enjoy the treat. Include a card expressing specific things you are grateful for about them.
- Send a note to your child’s teacher expressing appreciation for them. They need encouragement and often only hear complaints. Surprise them and bless their day by bringing them their coffee drink of choice.
- Say ‘Good Morning!’ to your neighbor when you see them (or whatever the appropriate salutation is for the time of day).
- Visit someone older than you and ask them to share a story from their life. Listen and express interest without looking at your phone or watch!
- Keep your phone in your pocket when you go through a checkout line at the store and say a few friendly words to the person behind the counter. Look them in the eyes and thank them when you leave.
- Notice the name of the person you are being served by at your favorite coffee shop or restaurant or where you buy groceries and remember it. Address them by their name. They will be amazed that you actually see and remember them.
- Pay It Forward by purchasing the person’s coffee in the car behind yours when you go through the drive-through.
- Always buy lemonade or cookies or whatever a child is selling when you see one of those iconic card tables set up in their front yard with a sign they’ve made. You will encourage a future entrepreneur.
