In 2000, Vicky lost her husband, Alberto, after 19 years of marriage. He died instantly in a car accident, when another driver crossed the highway median.
Two months later, her oldest daughter, Tina, died in a fire. “I was left with a broken heart,” she says, “and three teenage children that were broken hearted also.”
Years later, when her children had grown up—moved out, and started to have their own families—depression and anxiety threatened to take hold of Vicky’s life.
“I was very lost and didn’t know how to find my way back,” Vicky remembers. “I wanted so desperately to be the mother I was to my children again. And the grandmother my grandchildren knew and loved.”
She’s been listening to SPIRIT for the past five years. In the midst of all the suffering, Mercy Me’s “The Hurt and the Healer” helped her through. ”I cried with uncontrollable tears with all my heart with every word they sang of that beautiful song,” she says
I’m alive, even though a part of me has died. You take my heart and breathe it back to life. I fall into your arms open wide, when the hurt and the healer collide.
Through many prayers, Vicky says God helped her find the right people to get help from. It was a long process, and things didn’t get better overnight. Dealing with so much loss was hard on her whole family, and they all struggled in different ways.
Thank you for giving to SPIRIT 105.3. Your support helps us bring songs of encouragement and hope to people in time when they need them most.
“It just helps me so much to keep going,” Vicky says. Day and night, whenever she listens to SPIRIT, Vicky feels encouraged.
“This song knew my heart and helped me live again,” she says. “God helped MercyMe write that song for so many of us, and I’ll be forever grateful! God is always good.”
