Fall is so beautiful. I really love the changing colors of the leaves. Even though it means darker days ahead, there is almost something anticipatory and expectant about it too. The dreary days don’t get me down (most days!), because I know this time is needed for the season on the other side. Plus, who doesn’t love cozy blankets, hot cocoa with marshmallows and a good book?
Have you ever thought about rain and the changing colors of the seasons as a metaphor for your relationship with Jesus? Rain brings back dry ground and prepares the soil for new life. The grass in our front lawn was awfully crunchy this summer, but slowly as the rain falls the green is returning – life is coming back. Life is coming back…not when it is bright and sunny outside, but in the dreariness, as the rain falls. There are seasons where we just need to water, the sun isn’t shining and we don’t see the growth immediately, but the work is being done in the quiet. If you are in a season of watering, don’t give up. Remember that watering and growth take time.
The changing colors of fall reflect surrender. Trees release their leaves, letting go of what once was. It is not death—it’s preparation. In our walk with Jesus, we are called to let go of old habits, past hurts, and things that hold us back from knowing him better. It’s in the surrender that we find freedom. It’s in the letting go that we make space for God to do something new. Is God calling you to let something go so he can bring you into something even better?
Growth in Jesus does require change, surrender, and patience. I know that doesn’t always feel great. You can’t get the blessing on the other side if you don’t walk through the storm. Don’t give up if you are in the midst of a storm! Let Jesus be your constant.
Here is some encouragement for you today. Three verses to help you trust God no matter which season you are in today!
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Isaiah 43:19 – For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Thank you for this reminder. I hope it’s okay that I copied it ( for myself) as a daily reminder during the winter months.
