But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
Eagles can fly as high as 10,000-20,000 feet. That’s two to four miles above the earth. Crazy, huh? You might think they are really strong to be able to do this, but it’s not their strength that takes eagles to the heights reached by private airplanes. It’s something called thermals—rising bubbles of hot air. Instead of flapping their wings and straining, eagles simply fly into a thermal and it does the work, raising them up as they spread their wings and circle higher with surprisingly little effort.
During a storm, eagles fly fearlessly into fierce winds, using the storm current (thermal) to rise higher quickly. The pressure of the storm helps them glide without using their energy because their wings are uniquely designed to lock in a fixed position amid the violent storm winds.
What a great example eagles are for us when we face storms in life. Just like they head for a thermal in a storm and it takes them above it, when we put our hope in the Lord, He will lift us up above the storm we’re in.
Rising above the storm doesn’t mean it isn’t still there. But anyone who has ridden in an airplane knows that there is always blue sky and sunshine once you get above the clouds. God wants us to hope in Him so He can take us above the storm we’re going through and show us that He’s in control, the storm won’t last forever, and we can be at peace in it.
What are the storms in your life today? Sometimes storms are circumstances completely beyond our control. But there can also be storms in our own hearts. What are you fighting against in your life? Did you know that you can give whatever that is to Jesus and leave it with Him? He will take it and give you hope in return.
Be honest with God and tell Him everything. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:6-7 …
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time
He will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.

Let’s take a lesson from eagles and stop working so hard. Just like Mercy Me sings about in their song, “Greater,” God wants us to trust Him. Then we can hear His voice telling us who we are and where we belong.
