Have you noticed that days are getting longer? It’s always a relief to me when that happens each Spring. I don’t know about you, but when it’s dark outside at 4 p.m. I just want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head. But when it’s light I want to get outside and do something fun!
We all want to live in everlasting sunshine. Maybe we want that because we were made for heaven … because when we’re there with Jesus, we’ll live in His light all the time. But now, as much as we don’t like it, it’s part of being human to have times of darkness in our lives.
Even if we do everything right, there is a natural rhythm to life that brings both happy and sad times. Of course, there are really sad times like when someone we love dies, we get sick, our kids rebel, or we lose our job. But there are also day-to-day things … like running out of cream for our morning coffee, our spouse or kids being grumpy, or traffic jams.
Life is an up and down ride. It’s one of the reasons that putting our hope in Jesus is such a great idea. When we do, we are guaranteed there really will be brighter days ahead. That doesn’t mean we live with a smile plastered on our face, but it does mean we can be hopeful that God is with us in the night and expect the morning to come. As we see a pattern of God’s faithfulness in our life, we can even learn to appreciate hard times because they make the good even better.
Today, we walk by faith … in the future, we’ll look back with 20/20 vision and see all the ways that God was walking with us through every valley and mountaintop of our lives.
We Are Messengers says it well in their song “Come What May.” Sing along with them as a declaration of faith that God is using all things for your good and His glory.
