Looking Up: Small Businesses – Clementine Shoppe
Nominated by: Marisa
I’ve worked for Clementine for a number of years. The owners are a local Christian family who have owned it for about 3 years. It’s their first and only store. At Clementine they make it a priority to consistently donate to the local chapter of Hopelink from the top of all profits, and they
continued this through covid no matter how small the profits. It is truly a small business, employing only about 3-5 people at any given time. During covid closures, the owner made it her priority to find tasks that she could still pay employees to do one at a time so that each person could still earn a little money and work safely. As soon as the store was allowed to reopen, they did so with new cleanliness and protection, but Clementine also cares about being a store that people want to be in. And it was never more apparent than when we reopened and customers came in just to support us, and also to say how glad they were to be back and how much they missed it.
People still rave even this month about how peaceful the store is. The owners care about people leaving happier, not about up-selling, just about being there for what people need, even if it’s a peaceful browse on a rough day. And they are willing to do any amount of work that they are physically able to do to make the store better for their employees and customers. They’ve taken on quite a mission with their store, but they continue to show that their care for quality, community, humility, and generosity are at the forefront of all they do. Thank God they’ve made it through 2020 and now I pray smooth sailing ahead!
This Summer we are excited to partner with Harborstone Credit Union to honor local small businesses. Many small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities.
