You’ve heard the dire warnings about new college grads:
- Forty percent are unemployed or under-employed, which is higher than the general population.
- Three out of four employers say recent graduates lack soft (non-technical) skills necessary to succeed in the workplace.
- Employers identify that many graduates also lack some practical knowledge (“hard skills“) as well.
- COVID-19 slowed new graduate hiring even more.
It’s clear that today’s graduates face some serious challenges. At Northwest University we don’t just want our graduates to get jobs, we want to set them up for career success. As such, we’ve launched an innovative solution to eliminate the skills gap that many employers identify. Our Career Readiness Initiative helps graduates develop specific workplace competencies they can include on their resumés. Employers can hire our new grads with confidence knowing they have the skills to succeed, and our students can begin their careers with the certainty that they’re prepared for every aspect of the job.
In addition to practical tech skills like Salesforce and Office Suite, the Career Readiness Institute helps students develop soft skills like conflict management, how to appropriately receive critique, workplace professionalism, and empathy. We believe we not only have a duty to our students to set them up success, but we also have a duty to employers to produce well-prepared graduates who are ready to work on Day One.
