When Therese’s mom passed away suddenly, she was devastated. A month later, her son told her he was addicted to heroin. It was almost more than she could bear.
For years, Therese did whatever she could to keep her son alive. She even went to the needle exchange for him. It took a huge emotional toll on her and she eventually lost her job. Then she lost her home.
“My son and I lived in my car for a year and a half,” she says. “I lost my car and had no choice but to leave my son on the street. One day I walked into Covington, sat down on a curb and just started crying. I didn’t know what to do.”
A pastor from a local church saw Therese and told her about Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. That day, Therese Caught the Spirit.
Therese renewed her relationship with Christ at the Mission. She received counseling for her depression and anxiety, and learned that she’s made in God’s image and is worthy of care. Therese says she wants to continue working for the Mission when she completes her internship to “help my son and others like him start a new life.”
