It might seem a bit odd to be talking about school shopping in mid-October. But think back to when you were a kid and you made that special trip for new jeans, sneakers and those shirts or sweaters Mom thought would look nice in your school picture. That time of renewal. A fresh start. A chance to dress for success. Or… maybe that didn’t apply to you. Money was simply too tight. Thanks to recent referrals by Seattle Public Schools teachers and staff, kids who may not have had a back-to-school shopping experience in August are finally getting one in mid-October. Through a program called Operation School Bell from Assistance League of Seattle – kids K-5 who deserve more light in their life get to go to special shopping nights. Operation School Bell has partnered with JC Penney and Target, locally. The kids get $100 gift cards and the store to themselves. As the kids shop thoughtfully, with tremendous gratitude, smiles fill the stores with near guarantees the assistance will lead to bigger, even better things in their life. We all know the impact of Hope. So…good job to Operation School Bell…and happy shopping to the deserving kids!
