Thank you for joining our “14-Day Download of Hope” series. Today, I want to talk about walls …
Walls can be a good thing, a protective thing. But right about now, because COVID-19 is keeping a lot of us at home, you may feel like you’ve got four walls closing in on you. Those may be the physical walls of your house. Or they may be walls of uncertainty and fear. Walls of sickness and financial stress. They may even be walls of doubt that you’re going to make it through this strange time in our world.
No matter what those walls are, we’ve all got them. And we all need the same thing. We need someone to break them down. God wants to take a sledgehammer and break down your walls today!
There’s a story in God’s word (Joshua 6) about a man named Joshua who also had to deal with walls. God told Joshua and the people he was leading to break down the walls of a highly fortified city named Jericho. And as if that wasn’t impossible enough, God told them to do it in a really strange way. They were supposed to walk around the city once a day for six days while they worshipped the Lord. Then, on the seventh day they had to walk around the city seven times while worshipping the Lord.
Talk about strange times. But you know what, it worked! On that seventh day, after they walked around the city seven times, the impossible happened. The walls of Jericho came crashing down and Joshua and the people conquered the city. God broke the walls down for them!
That reminds me of the song, “Reckless Love,” sung by Cory Asbury.
There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me
Friend, if there are walls you need kicked down and lies you need torn down, Jesus wants to do it for you. Those walls might be too big and strong for you, but they are nothing to Him—and He will do whatever it takes to rescue you!
