The 9th circuit court of appeals has ruled that it won’t reinstate President Trump’s 90 day ban on travelers from 7 countries. That means people from the countries listed in the ban will be allowed to travel to the US for the time being. The president has said that the legal fight will continue.
Some East Coast schools will remain closed today, a day after a powerful snowstorm plowed through the region that made travel extremely hazardous. Yesterday, airlines canceled more than 3,500 flights and tens of thousands lost power as winter storm warnings stretched from Maine to New Jersey.
I-5 in Seattle back open after trees fell on freeway–Four lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Seattle were shut down for more than three hours last night after trees fell on the freeway. Eastbound I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass has reopened. Westbound I-90, along with Stevens and White Passes remain closed until at least 9:00 a.m. KOMO
10 counties have issued flood advisories as flooding and slides are possible through today–A mudslide near power lines in the Beacon Hill neighborhood terrified neighbors with what sounded like multiple explosions. No one was injured.
Excess rain also caused a failure at one of King County’s wastewater treatment plants near Discovery Park, sending 100 million gallons of untreated water into Puget Sound. About 90 percent was stormwater runoff. The rest was raw sewage. The National Weather Service issued flood advisories in Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom Counties.
Mudslides have been causing problems. One home was severely damaged and 11 others were evacuated after slide in Maple Valley Another slide covered the railroad tracks near Carkeek Park and has closed North Sounder commuter rail service until at least Monday. Another slide has caused Amtrak to cancel Cascades services between Seattle and Everett. They will offer a special bus service.
