Serving can be really hard. It can be hard to find what you are passionate about. It can be hard to manage the time commitment. And, as a working mom, it can be hard to find something to plug into that also involves my children. So, here is one simple idea you can do as a family that can make a difference in the community: Homeless Care Packages
Here is what we did.
We took one night that our Bible study normally meets and put together care packages that we keep in the car that are easily handed out to people from the car.
Here is what we packed in a Large Ziplock Bag.
- Kleenex
- Socks
- Mints
- Cough Drops
- Granola Bars
- Trail Mix
- Small NIV Bible
- Chapstick
- Toothpaste & tooth brush
- Sunscreen
- Bottle of Water
- Lotion
Each of us brought 1-2 items to contribute to the bag. And each family made 3 bags to hand out. The beautiful thing about these bags is that as you are driving around, when you feel led to give one out, your kids will see you. It has been a conversation starter for us and a way to talk about how we should be reaching out and helping those less fortunate.
There are many varieties to these bags, but it an easy way to rally your friends together and make a tangible difference in the community.
