Police are investigating a last night shooting that left three people dead, including the gunman, and at least nine others injured in Lafayette, La. A 58-year-old white man allegedly opened fire at the Grand Theatre after a showing of Trainwreck began. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who arrived at the scene soon after the shooting, described a ‘story of heroism’ about one teacher who jumped in front of a bullet to save another’s life. ‘They were just out to watch a movie for summer break,’ he said. ‘They never thought it would be interrupted by this awful tragedy. …
Today is the deadline for the Food and Drug Administration to decide whether to approve a new cholesterol drug. The injectable drug, known by its brand name Praluent, lowers so-called bad cholesterol (LDL) more than common treatments. Fire crews have rescued the driver of a semi that flew off I-5 early this morning near Southcenter, starting a brush fire. They used a high angle rescue to locate and save the driver, who’s in critical condition right now. A sheriff’s deputy is a hero for ramming his car into an out-of-control UPS truck as the driver suffered a stroke behind the wheel.,’ Whatcom County Sherrrif’s Deputy Colin Bertrand spotted a runaway UPS truck swerving and weaving over center lines into oncoming traffic, hitting curbs, ignoring his sirens and lights. ‘My first thought was this wasn’t a UPS driver,’ Bertrand said. Bertrand thought the truck was stolen, or maybe its driver was drunk.Then the truck swerved, nearly hitting another car head-on, and striking a curb. It turns out the driver was having a stroke. He credits Deputy Bertrand with saving his life.
