THE BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS
By Martha Hadley
Yesterday, I saw a bluebird in my backyard. And this morning, I was wakened by chirping birds singing their happy songs outside my bedroom window. A few bright pink buds have started to appear on my rhododendrons and the flowering pink plum trees are in glorious bloom. Spring is on the way and God’s miraculous handiwork in nature is all around us.
Thankfully this had been a mild winter, but I’m certainly ready for warmer temperatures and the beauty and fresh newness of spring. Just a little over a week before the fabulous first day of spring next Friday March 20. The countdown has begun!
As we finish up this winter season, I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on what God might have taught you during this time. The seasons of nature are often like the seasons of our life. For me, winter is often a time of reflection, and spring is a time of renewal to openly embrace exciting changes and the possibility of new beginnings.
I always get kind of giddy in the early springtime as the seasons change. And those feelings are starting to happen within me now as each day gets longer and the signs of spring appear. It’s a joyful time that gives me a sense of hope and anticipation of good things to come.
I read an inspiring quote yesterday that I thought might encourage you, too… ‘The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.’
So, take heart and cheer up! Winter’s cold short days are nearly over and the beauty and hope of new life and happiness is just around the corner!
With love and joy,
