Unemployed Ohio man allegedly planned bomb-and-shoot attack on U.S. Capitol-The plan: Set off pipe bombs to put lawmakers and employees in panicked flight then gun them down with an assault rifle, as they ran across his path and that of an accomplice. He’s been arrested.
Another million copies of the latest issue of Charlie Hebdo will be back on Paris newsstands this morning after selling out the day before. Three million copies were sold in the initial run, which may now be expanded to 5 million. The cover features a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed crying. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has claimed responsibility for last week’s rampage.
The Islamic State terror group have increased the amount of territory they control in Syria as the U.S.-led bombing campaign approaches its four-month anniversary. ISIS’ expansion of control can partially be attributed to the U.S. focus on Iraq, where it is working closely with Baghdad to roll back gains made by ISIS last summer. However, as a result, ISIS fighters are flowing into Syria unchecked. In other cases, Syrian rebel group who once fought against ISIS have been convinced to join their side.
The IRS is likely to be a lot less popular this tax season. It’s estimated that refunds will be slower, the risk of identity theft will be higher and there will be longer hold times to reach customer service. By some estimates, fewer than half of the taxpayers who call the IRS will be able to speak to a representative. Our IRS Commissioner says that budget cuts have taken their toll on the Internal Revenue Service.
Yosemite Free-Climb Duo Reach El Capitan Summit, Make History–Pair are the first to free-climb the nearly vertical El Capitan’s ‘Dawn Wall–President Obama tweeted the climbers a picture of himself with a painting of Yosemite in the White House telling them, ‘you remind us anything is possible’.
Marysville Pilchuck High School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after school officials received a phone threat of a bomb on campus. Police gave the all clear for the entire campus later in the evening. The boys’ and girls’ basketball games scheduled for Wednesday night were postponed. The threat comes 2 1/2 months after a fellow student fatally shot four teens in the high school cafeteria before taking his own life.
