Did you have the chance to watch Monday night’s episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls”. Bear is a survivalist/adventurer and on the show he takes a celebrity on a challenging two day quest through the wild outdoors.
Monday night’s show featured NFL superstar Deion Sanders, being tested physically and mentally in the Utah desert. During a campfire chat, Bear got personal with Deion, asking how he felt after winning the Super Bowl. His answer was surprising.
Deion said he felt empty.
He had all the money, awards and popularity …but was still longing for something. During that time, he had gone through a divorce, lost custody of his kids and had suicidal thoughts….even going as far as driving his car off a cliff. When that didn’t turn out the way he wanted, he gave himself up to God.
Deion’s story made me think about the story of King Solomon, who had love, money and power…but at the end of the day he knew true happiness could only result from enjoying God.
The Bible reminds us that the richest and longest lasting happiness can only be found in God. God wants to be glorified and the way we glorify him is by enjoying Him, because He is the source of true joy.
Deion has since regained custody of his kids and is working on being the best Dad he can be. Deion said, “If it’s all about you, you’ve already lost.”
Thank you for being a part of the Spirit 105.3 family.
May your day ahead be blessed.
In Him,
Paul
