The doorbell took me by surprise. I answered it in sweats and a ponytail looking exhausted.
There stood my father-in-law and all I could think about was our messy house. I pictured myself as a flight attendant. To our left, you’ll notice cereal bowls stacked in the sink. To our right? Fisher-Price has exploded in our living room.
Kenny smiled and said he hardly noticed the clutter as I welcomed him in. He knows we have a busy life; he wasn’t coming over to check-in on the status of our cleanliness. He’s not an inspector, he’s our dad.
I thought about Jesus and the fact that he feels welcome in my messy life. He is kind to me amidst my chaos. Like Kenny, He simply comes to spend time with me.
No need to hide the mess,
Sarah
