Unsung Hero: Faith of Snohomish County

Read how a 5-Year Old Makes a Difference during the Oso Mudslides

(Snohomish County – WA) Five-year old, Faith, of Snohomish County has been recognized as a SPIRIT 105.3 “Unsung Hero.”

When parents, Ron & Tami, were talking to their kindergartener about the tragedy of the Snohomish County mudslides, Faith was eager to find a way to help the families involved. After hearing about the devastating news, Faith started writing notes and drawing pictures for the families affected. Thus began the “Kids Caring for Oso” campaign.

Faith and her family are spreading the word by visiting various businesses and asking schools, churches, neighbors and friends to participate. Hobby Lobby in Lynnwood graciously agreed to allow participants to drop off card donations. Additionally, Faith has asked multiple contacts close to the tragedy to accept the handmade cards including emergency workers, support groups, churches and volunteers groups.

This day and age, it’s a lot simpler to send a digital note, via email or Facebook, to let people know you’re thinking of them. However, a handmade card is unique, and one of a kind. Even though it does not include raising funds or collecting donations, creating a handmade card is a simple way for the community to come together and lend a helping hand to those who are hurting in the Oso Community. Anyone can participate, in spite of age or income. In 10 minutes a school classroom could make the same amount of cards that it would take Faith and her sister, Sarah, several days to make. The family prays that somehow these cards can be used to comfort and bless the families and friends that are hurting.

All who are interested in sending a card or sign (dimensions up to 12”x12”) may drop off or send their submission by May 12, 2014 to Hobby Lobby in Lynnwood: 19310 60th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036, or email KidsCaringForOso@gmail.com for more information. With a pure servant’s heart and a passion for others, Faith is a shining example of the “SPIRIT of Seattle.” It’s an honor and a privilege to recognize her as one of our “Unsung Heroes.”
