The Salvation Army Continues to Provide Aid to Families
Impacted by Mudslides in Snohomish County, WA
Western WA neighbors can make donations to disaster relief efforts via phone, online or mail

SEATTLE – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team has been working in Oso and the surrounding areas including Arlington and Darrington that were impacted by the mudslide on Saturday, March 22. Please visit our website for updated information about our work in the areas:

The Salvation Army is now assisting each family as specifically needed. Individuals and families can visit the Joint Resource Centers in Arlington and Darrington, where they meet with The Salvation Army and other agencies. Each agency is designated to provide specific aid. Sadly, some families lost everything – homes, cars, and more. The Salvation Army is providing emergency financial assistance so they can begin to rebuild their lives, including temporary housing, household items, food, clothing, medical care, and transportation.

Other families are impacted indirectly, and need support in other ways. For example, with the closure of highway 530, commute time from Darrington to Everett and Seattle has increased significantly (100 and 125 miles, respectively). We are providing fuel vouchers for people who need to make the trip. For individuals who have missed days of work, we can help with grocery vouchers, rent or utility assistance, and more.

The Salvation Army will be at the Joint Resource Centers daily, continuing to assess the needs of each family, and helping them rebuild as needed.

You may also help with Disaster Relief by donating to Salvation Army. Here are some ways that you can give back:

April 1st and 2nd, SPIRIT 105.3 is hosting the Share the SPIRIT Pledge Drive. We are inviting listeners to partner with the station to reach even more people with hope, encouragement and the message of Christ. With every ongoing gift of $30/month, the first month's donations will be donated directly back to the community of Oso. Through the Salvation Army, together we can make a difference in hundreds of lives in our local community. Will you join us? Click HERE to partner with us!

Are you a "highlighter?" What I mean is, when you read, do you read interactively like I do with a pen and a highlighter, making notes in the margins and dog-earing pages to go back to? I think I get this from my mom. My favorite part of borrowing books from her is her notes in the margins. Sometimes, I feel like God is a "highlighter" too. Read More
