Unsung Hero: Carolyn van der Meulen

SPIRIT 105.3 Recognizes an “Unsung Hero”

(Mukilteo – WA) Carolyn van der Meulen of Mukilteo has been recently recognized as a SPIRIT 105.3 “Unsung Hero.”

Many seniors in high school at this time of year are taking their SAT’s, applying to colleges, juggling extracurricular activities with a part-time job, and soaking up precious time with good friends. Unlike her classmates, however, Carolyn is the co-founder of the nonprofit known as Foster Bikes. Carolyn and her brother, Keith, were inspired to start the company when they thought to themselves, “What if every kid had a bike?”. The two of them made their dream a reality with just a little bit of research and a small fee to start their company. Since its beginning in June 2012, Foster Bikes has distributed over 40 bicycles throughout Snohomish, King, Pierce and Skagit Counties. Carolyn spends countless hours every week organizing volunteers, accepting used bicycles and donations, restoring old bikes to make them function like new, and distributing them to foster kids in the area.

Carolyn van der Meulen shares the Spirit of Seattle with her servant’s heart, and big dreams to do good for the community. Carolyn is changing the world for foster children in Washington, and for this reason we are happy to recognize her as one of our “Unsung Heroes”. SPIRIT 105.3’s “SPIRIT of Seattle – Unsung Hero” campaign is a program that recognizes individuals for their efforts to faithfully and selflessly serve others in our communities with joy and excellence each and every day. Sponsored by the Singing Christmas Tree at Life Center in Tacoma.
