Unsung Hero: Teresa Dillard
Teresa Dillard of Seattle has been recently recognized as a SPIRIT 105.3 “Unsung Hero.”
For almost a century, Compass Center has helped individuals in the Seattle area who are struggling with homelessness and poverty. The organization provides low-barrier services programs for homeless men and women, and low-income families, as well as a menu of other services. Teresa Dillard manages the Client Service Office where over 7,000 homeless or at-risk of being homeless, men and women go to receive help. Many of those that Teresa sees regularly are challenged with mental illness, have chemical dependency, are victims of domestic violence cases, veterans, or were laid off from their previous job.
Many might see Teresa’s job as emotionally and physically draining, but this month’s “Unsung Hero” takes it one-step further. Teresa shows unconditional love and compassion to the visitors of the Compass Housing Alliance as if they are family. A past colleague, Sharon Armstrong, remembers working with Teresa, “We would walk down the streets of Seattle and all of the people living on the streets would come up and talk to her as if she were their best friend… She sincerely cares about each client… She remembers all of their names, birthdays, circumstances, etc.”
Teresa Dillard acts with a servant’s heart and is a shining light to not only her coworkers, but also to anyone she comes in contact with. Teresa serves as an outstanding example of the “SPIRIT of Seattle” and we are happy to recognize her as one of our “Unsung Heroes”.
SPIRIT 105.3’s “SPIRIT of Seattle – Unsung Hero” campaign is a program that recognizes individuals for their efforts to faithfully and selflessly serve others in our communities with joy and excellence each and every day.
