  • The birth of Christ. It’s possibly the most discussed event in human history, as well as one of the most controversial. Some would call it a farce; others have vowed to live their lives proclaiming it. Some would refer to it as a fairy tale; others have literally given their lives defending it.

  • When my dad died I was cleaning the bathroom. I know that seems so insignificant to remember but I know the exact feeling of standing there cleaning the bathroom and hearing the phone ring. It was my brother. I missed it the first time but when he called back he said, “Did you hear?” “No.” I was cautious but not expecting, “Dad passed away.” I thought he was joking. Why would he, but still. I thought maybe he was mistaken. We hung up. I just stood there, mop in one hand and phone in the other hand, still. I walked down to my husband and I said, “I think my dad died.”

When you think of school, you think of a building. Teachers. Students. Education. But, really, a school is so much more than that. It's a community. Day in and day out, you send your child off for 8 hours of academics. That's far too much time to spend in a simple sterile learning environment. At Seattle Christian Schools, they make a specific effort to create a robust learning community. SCS fosters a culture of success and personal growth not just academically and spiritually, but socially. Students have unique opportunities to explore their interests outside of the classroom...

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful season of twinkling lights and candy canes. As I pondered the Christmas story this year and how we’ve done devotions in the past, I wanted to do something that looked at the Christmas story in a new way. How often do we read the words in Luke or Matthew without really thinking about them? Sure, we know the basic story, but have we ever really looked at how God constructed it. So, this year, we read through the Christmas story as told by both Luke and Matthew and wrote down all the ‘characters’ we encountered in our reading. 13 writers...
