  • Flip through your Bible next chance you get, looking for Psalm 134. At only 3 verses, if you’re not looking for it, you’ll pass right over it unnoticed on your way to the oft quoted verses in Psalm 135- like driving through a tiny little ‘wide-spot-in-the-road’ burg on your way to somewhere else that seems more important.

  • The recipe goes like this: Start with a healthy portion of bitterness and a heaping spoonful of hatred- add a pinch of guilt to counteract the hatred I know will taste better than it should, and mix with a genuine trepidation about the world my future grandchildren will be born into. This is what my soul cooked up when I heard about what happened in France.

  • When I was a kid, I vividly remember conversations with the other boys in the neighborhood about the killer bee swarm that was growing by the day, migrating from somewhere exotic toward the U.S., and that within 5 years, we’d all be defending our lives daily to avoid succumbing to the swarm that

  • I wonder if this might be the first time this lady has smiled since April 25th, when an earthquake ripped her life into a new shape? The reason she’s smiling is because she’s receiving an earthquake survival kit from a World Concern worker. A kit that maybe you paid for, during our special morning for Nepal Relief. That morning, in just 3 hours, you provided over 4,100 survival kits.“The opposite of love is not hate, it's

  • Japanese WW2 soldier Hiroo Onoda hung on to those words spoken to him by his commanding officer, while facing the enemy and the elements in the Philippine jungle. When the Japanese army surrendered in 1945, word got to Onoda, but he was convinced it was just enemy propaganda… so he waited on the words of his commanding officer “…we’ll come back for you”…

  • As I write this letter, the TV behind me is displaying the highlights of the semi-finals of the World Cup soccer tournament between Brazil and Germany. Germany played to win the whole enchilada, while the Brazilian team played as though just being from the host country should be more than enough to win, and that actually touching the ball wasn’t

  • It's time to celebrate our independence! My dad used to be the announcer at our local fireworks show when I lived in Minnesota and I always remember the fun of those family outings. We'd gather our picnic blanket and sit on the college football field, ready to be oohed and ahed by the dazzling lights.
