A long 3 day holiday weekend filled with family get-togethers, picnics, barbeques, opening day for swimming pools, and great shopping deals? Well, yes, it is all of those things. But do you stop and reflect on the real reason for Memorial Day?

  • Happy New Year!  I hope 2016 has gotten off to a great start for you.  On the last day of 2015, I was driving along the scenic route to Enumclaw and I looked up in awe at Mt. Rainier and the foothills as they presided majestically over the pastoral farm land.  The day was exquisitely clear and sunny without a cloud in sight, so the view was spectacular as it revealed all the colorful hues and details of the awesome snow-covered mountain and foothills.  Mt. Rainier is so huge it looked like I could drive there in no time at all.  But at 14,411 feet it was still a couple of hours away.  I felt very fortunate to have such a gorgeous sight to behold on the last day of the year.  It gave me such a feeling of hope and joy for the new year!

  • Thanksgiving is the time of year when we gather with family and friends around a table overflowing with food. It’s a time that is centered around food and fellowship. It’s easy to let that take center stage on Thanksgiving Day and say a quick prayer before we dig in to the feast.

  • Yesterday, I saw a bluebird in my backyard. And this morning, I was wakened by chirping birds singing their happy songs outside my bedroom window. A few bright pink buds have started to appear on my rhododendrons and the flowering pink plum trees are in glorious bloom. Spring is on the way and God's miraculous handiwork in nature is all around us.

  • A friend told me a joke the other day about a woman who went to an auto repair shop and asked the mechanic for a seven hundred ten. He looked puzzled and said, “What’s a seven hundred ten?” She replied, “You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine. I’ve lost it and need a new one. I don’t know exactly

  • Every autumn I'm reminded of this parable when I see a pumpkin: "Being a human being is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff-- including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts

  • The other night, I was spending a quiet evening relaxing alone at home, when all of sudden I heard a loud clanking noise downstairs. My first thought was “What in the world did my cats knock over that would make such a racket?!” Then I realized that the kitties were upstairs with me. They had wide eyes and cautiously crept into the hallway to peer through the banister railings to investigate what was making such a clatter.
