Parade founder Mae Owada

You‘ve got to love a neighborhood parade! Over 20 years ago a local mom read an article in Better Homes & Gardens that sparked the idea. Together with a small group of other mothers and their children they dressed up in red, white, and blue and made their walk… unfortunately in the pouring rain.

Thankfully every 4th of July the annual parade of kids on bikes, decorated wagons and strollers, and families make a 1.3 mile stroll together. Granted there are probably more people in the parade than spectators, but everyone seems to look forward this annual ritual of both fun and patriotism.

In 2013 the parade founder Mae was invited to be the honorary Grand Marshall, and got to ride up front in the one motorized car allowed. She brought along some photos of those early neighborhood parades, which were fun to share.

You know, it only takes one person to get something started. Maybe that one person could be you!
