Class of 2027

When I saw this sign at my daughter’s kindergarten graduation last week I was in shock! I had to do the math real quick thinking maybe the teachers got it wrong.  Nope, Kennedy will be graduating high school in 2027!  Wow! My life began flash before me. Before I know it she’ll be out of the house, living on her own. What will she do? Who will she become? Will she live near me?!

If your kids are getting ready to graduate maybe these thoughts ran through your mind years ago and now it’s here…....the class of 2014!  If you are the one graduating it must be a pretty exciting time; a new chapter in your life about to begin, hard work finally paying off, but if you’re a parent anxiety and worry maybe setting in.  I love what actress Sandra Bullock recently shared at a commencement ceremony in Louisiana, she said she wished someone would have told her this before stepping out into the world, “Stop being scared of the unknown, because anything I worried about didn’t actually happen.”  She also said, “Find your Joy…..it’s what you're going to remember in the end. It's not the worry; it's not the what-ifs. It's the joy that stays with you.”

We can experience Joy even in the midst of our struggles.  This kind of Joy doesn’t come from having it all together it.  Joy is gift from God and He wants joy for us now, not tomorrow, not when we’ve worked thru our difficulties, not when we’ve landed our dream job or seen our children succeed…..but right now.  Proverbs 15:30

So what are you waiting for?

Carpe diem!

If she's graduating from Kindergarten she would be the class of 2026. If preschool, then it's 2027. My first grader will be the class of 2025.

  • Hope In The Midst Of The Holidays

I was originally thinking about writing about how grateful I am, heading into this holiday season, that my family and I have been so incredibly blessed in so many ways. We have been, and I am. But my friend’s situation got me thinking about how the sting of suffering, whether it’s physical, relational, or psychological, can be even more acute in a season when we have a cultural expectation of joy and happiness.
