Changing Seasons
2 2

Autumn officially arrives soon on September 22. What gorgeous weather we've had this summer! September is usually warm here so it still feels nice and summery this month before we get into the cooler weather. School has started and the routines that have been set aside for summertime activities are gearing up again. Many of us feel rather wistful as we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall.

Like the changing seasons in nature, God has designed our lives to be seasonal, too. We can approach any change with either apprehension or anticipation. Let’s choose anticipation! Embrace it with open arms and see what God will do in this new season of your life.

I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with memories you’ll cherish for years to come, and that autumn brings with it the joy of family, friendships, good health, new learning experiences, and creativity!

One of the highlights of my summer was when I went kayaking and seaweed harvesting for the first time on Lopez Island in the gorgeous San Juan Islands in July. I loved it! I plan on doing more kayaking now that I've been introduced to it and found that I really enjoy it. This fall I’m very excited about taking art classes again after a long lapse as well as getting back into music as I play my flute in organized community groups.

Click on the comments below and share some of the things you did this summer and what you’re looking forward to this fall/winter.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

Love, Martha

Thanks for your article, Martha! I, too, have gone through many changes this past year. We sold our home, our youngest daughter got married and our oldest daughter is going to have a baby. Some of what we've experienced has been bittersweet, but we know that God brings about changes in our lives to draw us closer to Him. We will be moving soon and even though it may not have been our choice to do so, I can now look forward to the future with anticipation knowing God Is in control and wants what is best for us!

  • Good afternoon! This morning Julie Lyles Carr from AllMomDoes shared a devotion with us about Sabbath and taking time to rest. She talked about how we get so busy and so frantic that our brain stops processing information. In order to find this rest we need to be intentional. We need to listen to those around us when they are telling us we are too busy, learn to find and rest in the silence, and create intentional pockets of time to spend with our tribe, our family, our people.
