"What have you done for me lately?"
3 1

"What have you done for me lately?" I think that mentality is engrained in who we are as Americans. We’ve been called a meritocracy… a society where you are judged by what you achieve. And there are some good things about that. But for me it gets tiring. There’s always more to accomplish. And there’s always someone else who has accomplished more than I have.

I’m glad that God doesn’t base His love for me on what I have accomplished. Jesus doesn’t say “what have you done for me lately?” He says “look what I have done for you.” In fact, He wants us to depend on Him, not on our own talents and abilities. In John 15, Jesus says "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." There’s a good dose of humility! But it’s also comforting to me to know that my future is in hands far more capable than mine. I hope it is for you too.

Do you feel that same pressure to achieve? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I am currently reading a booked titled 'Under the Overpass' where 2 college kids decide to challenge themselves on what it means to depend on Christ for their daily physical needs by spending 5 months living as homeless men. A remarkable and eye opening story and it challenges me....do I really know how much I need Christ in my cushy life? This is making realize I need to communicate more with my Father.

I find as I get older that I understand more and more how we must rely on God. I am what I am, who I am and where I am by His design. I may have taken the wrong road and direction many times in my life. But He always brought me back and used the situations to glorify His name. The happiest and most joyful times in my life are when I realize I am not in control, He is.

I love how we are all able to cast all of our anxieties to God, because I know that He really does care for us. He personally cares about the things that worry us, especially the demons that prey upon us on a daily basis, trying to trip us up at each and every turn. I know our Lord cares deeply more about our concerns than we might on any given day. There is not one single nagging, aching, blood pressure raising thought that escapes His notice. He is able to bear the weight of all of our worries so that we won't have to. He does this because we are His personal concerns, and we will never disappear from His Radar Screen... Ever!

  • After scrolling through Mandisa's Facebook profile, it's pretty easy to see that her week has been jam packed. It's no surprise with her new album, "Out of the Dark" releasing May 19th. Despite her busy days in New York, it does look like she's had a blast.
