Run 4 Hope

About The Walk

Dear Friends, for over twenty years, Victory Outreach has sponsored an annual “Run 4 Hope” event. This 5k/10k run and walk-a-thon with Kiddie K for children, Motorcycle Run and even a “Doggie Run”, is not only a time of fun and fellowship for all ages, but most importantly it is a time for Victory Outreach family and friends to join together to raise much needed finances for “At Risk Youth” and Missions abroad. The journey to end gang violence, prostitution, drugs and alcohol abuse starts with a single step.  Thousands of inner-city young people in the United States and different countries worldwide have been transformed and many lives touched by the Gospel as a result of the finances raised through Run 4 Hope … From the young addicts on the streets, to the precious street children, we are seeing lives transformed by the power of the Gospel. We’d like to ask you to join us in this great endeavor. Run 4 Hope is an opportunity for the entire family to get involved. Maybe you cannot participate physically; however consider giving a financial donation, so that this generation of inner-city youth and countries around the world will be reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to read the testimonies of those who have been impacted by this “United We Can” endeavor. Please help Victory Outreach make a difference, log onto www.victoryoutreach.org and make a donation today. We look forward to hearing from you.

Church Connection: Emerald City Bible Fellowship

SPIRIT wants to be involved with YOUR church! We believe in the mission and ministry of churches in our community. SPIRIT 105.3 wants to partner together to reach out and share God’s love with believers and non-believers in our local area. It’s our hopes that through Church Connection, listeners who do not regularly attend church will get plugged into a local body and have a chance to grow in their faith.

This month we are partnering with Emerald City Bible Fellowship to share God’s love. Join us on September 14th for the 10:15am service as we worship and fellowship together.

The Emerald City Bible Fellowship church family is deeply committed to that which is important to Jesus Christ. Jesus’ words about loving God, loving people (Matthew 22:37-39) and making disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) form the foundation of the vision we possess. Our aim is to be a praying and worshipping community of believers whose faith in Jesus Christ is evident to all we encounter. And that our faith in Jesus and obedience to the scriptures will lead others to experience authentic life change as well. Emerald City Bible Fellowship makes every attempt at maintaining a balance between preaching (telling) and practicing (doing) the gospel. Our hope is that as we pro-actively share the “good news” of the gospel and engage in the “good works” of the gospel that individuals, families and our community will find wholeness for their lives through Jesus Christ. Emerald City Bible Fellowship is marked by several notable characteristics and emphases including faith, racial diversity, spiritual worship, giving, intercession, community outreach, international missions and a healthy balance between family and ministry.

Special thanks to Rainier View Construction and Roofing for sponsoring this months Church Connection! Rainier View Construction and Roofing is based in Auburn and is family owned and operated. Licensed, bonded, and insured, they are your one stop for residential home improvements - roofing, siding, windows, solar energy, decks, remodels, additions - they do it all! Also, they're giving back through the Places of Worship Program.

We are very excited to be at Emerald City Bible Fellowship and hope you will join us!

Biblical Worldview as it Relates to Science

Educational seminar by Dr. Robert Carter

 Download Poster/Flier

http://nwcreation.net/symposium/handouts/Robert_Carter_Sep_18_2014.pdf

 Description:

Today, bible-believers are a great minority among practicing scientists and are subject to much persecution. Yet, modern science was developed on principles directly derived from Christian theology. Despite that history, science today operates without even token admission of its roots. How does this affect current scientific practices? Can we trust the conclusions of all those men and women in white lab coats? Can science operate in a moral and ontological vacuum?

We will examine three examples of how the turn from belief in God has affected modern thought: geomorphology (the shape of the earth’s surface), fossilization (the process of preserving the remains of living organisms), and genetics (specifically as it relates to the genetic history of mankind). In each of these subject areas, we will examine the evolutionary scenarios put forth to date and weight them against solid biblical exposition. In the end, we will see that the evolutionary conclusions for each of these subjects are derived more from starting assumptions than it is from reality. Science belongs under the umbrella of Christianity.

 About the Speaker:

Dr Carter was converted to Christ at an early age, but did not know what to do with the theory of evolution. He always knew what he wanted to believe, but had no way to express what he was thinking and no evidence to support his views. In his freshman year of college, he was exposed to the information for creation for the first time and soon after adopted it as his modus operandi. He says he felt a tremendous joy when he realized his science and his religion were no longer at odds. This joy (and, he says, Creation magazine and the Journal of Creation) enabled him to get through the in-depth evolutionary training of his undergraduate and graduate programs with his faith intact.

He obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company. See longer version of bio.

He is currently a senior scientist and speaker for CMI-USA in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lives with his wife, Leanne, and children and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

  • Unbalanced Loads

The other night, I was spending a quiet evening relaxing alone at home, when all of sudden I heard a loud clanking noise downstairs. My first thought was “What in the world did my cats knock over that would make such a racket?!” Then I realized that the kitties were upstairs with me. They had wide eyes and cautiously crept into the hallway to peer through the banister railings to investigate what was making such a clatter.
