Celtic Prayer Retreat 2015

Reconciliation is at the heart of the gospel message. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s love has flooded our hearts, reshaping and transforming us. We are journeying not just toward renewed relationships and communities, but toward a new creation in which we are all reconciled to the image of God within us, within others, and even within creation.

Our annual retreat on August 7th-9th is your invitation to enter this journey. With the inspirational 6th century Irish monk Columba as our guide, we will walk together through scripture, reflection, worship, and creative spiritual exercises, stirring our imaginations and opening our hearts and minds to the reconciling power of God. There will be plenty of time and space for inner renewal, plus lots of fun, fellowship and food as we journey together toward restoration and wholeness.

We will set aside the busy clutter in our lives and create a quiet space for prayer and renewal as we worship God in a beautiful outdoor cathedral surrounded by maple and cedar trees.

Following the Celtic Christian tradition, this retreat will incorporate the rhythms of work and rest, community and solitude, prayer and biblical study.

'Messing with God's Country' Book Reading

Seattle author Melissa Laird will appear at Third Place Books on Aug. 19, 2015, to read from her Northwest eco-thriller Messing with God's Country. The book reading and book signing event will run from 7 to 8 p.m. at the book store, located at 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park, Wash. In this eco-thriller, Laird uses her experience as a philanthropy officer for a national conservation non-profit and her interest in the Seattle music scene to weave a fast-paced tale of philanthropy, conservation, jazz and violent racism. "Messing with God's Country" gives readers a detailed sense of life and culture in the Pacific Northwest - the incredible natural beauty, a culture that embraces a love of the land, independence, and in the extreme - the pocket of hatred that in the 1980s and '90s grew in the woods that are so revered. Laird has lived in the Seattle area since 1971. She has an English degree from Stanford University and a master's degree in ethnomusicology from the University of Washington. Since 1996 she has worked at The Nature Conservancy in Seattle, where she is associate director of philanthropy. Reach her at 206-462-9582 or melissalaird7@gmail.com.

When I was a kid, I vividly remember conversations with the other boys in the neighborhood about the killer bee swarm that was growing by the day, migrating from somewhere exotic toward the U.S., and that within 5 years, we’d all be defending our lives daily to avoid succumbing to the swarm that Read More
