When my family moved into our home in 2004, one of the features we loved, was the beautiful, lush, Douglas Fir, standing guard over the house. But, for the last several years we have been watching the branches wither, weaken and in some cases, break off and fall to the ground.
As more bare, lifeless limbs were exposed it became apparent that this tree had to go. So, last week we had the arborist come and the tree taken down. A sad occasion to be sure, but something interesting happened as a result of having that tree removed. We noticed how much more light we get in our house now and how much brighter our yard is.
It was then that I realized God was using that tree to show me how He is at work in my life. As I continue to grow closer to Him, He is helping to prune away those lifeless branches in my life, allowing His light to brighten my living room.
John 8:12 reminds us, ‘I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’
