Love Does Stuff... How About You?

Posted By: Larry Lomax http://www.larrylomax.com · 5/15/2013 8:00:00 AM

Bob Goff never seems to lack a good story, and his life has been a neverending series of adventures, so he’ll never run out of crazy things to share.

This semi-practicing attorney from Tacoma and author of "Love Does" quite creatively looks for ways to love others in the moment. Bob is a risk taker that seems to always be coloring outside of the lines, but the results often make you go “wow… that was pretty cool”.

Loving God, and loving others… if ever there was a right thing to do that would be it.  But not just in word, in action. When you have an assurance as a follower of Jesus that “no matter what” God has got your back, that grants you the sense of freedom to “go where no man has gone before.”

The Loves Does Stuff event is tomorrow and Friday in Tacoma. I  can’t say I ...

Lessons from a Chocolate Bunny

Posted By: Larry Lomax http://www.larrylomax.com · 3/20/2013 8:00:00 AM

I thought I’d simultaneously write this note to you and do the homework for the men’s group I’m in. Yes, sometimes we guys can multi-task. The subject matter is a basic element of character. A trait we are all drawn to… Integrity.

In the context of the Easter season, integrity can be explained by example of chocolate bunnies. Just by looking at them, a roomful of these chocolate companions can all look pretty good. Once you nibble on the ear of a chocolate Easter rabbit, you’ll quickly discover whether it’s solid or hollow. Hollow bunnies are different on the outside than they are on the inside. Solid bunnies are chocolate all the way through. So, which chocolate bunny is a better example of integrity?

I want to live my life like a solid chocolate Easter bunny, except for the part about being devoured. So there the analogy ends, and a quick ...

What Do You Remember About Being 18?

What do you remember about being 18?

What brings this to mind is my daughter Grace is turning 18 in less than two weeks. Wow… already? I’ve been looking through photo albums flashing back to times we had together. I’m also searching my memories to see if there’s anything of value I can share with her about my journey to adulthood.

Can you draw any lessons from your days of youth?

Sometimes I’m amazed at how much I can’t remember, and yet some things will randomly trigger memories.

So if you’ll indulge me, I’m going to attempt to reconstruct my life at 18 to see if there’s anything of worth I can share with Grace.

When I hit 18, I had just graduated from Renton HS and was eager to pursue my dream of doing radio, which started on a 10 watt radio station at Green River CC. I got ...

No Two Holidays Are Ever Alike

Ever think back on your family gatherings, especially at Thanksgiving & Christmas, and realize none are exactly identical?

I love the idea of family traditions, but I also know the changes in our individual lives tend to “tweak” those times we are together.  I think the hardest seasons are when someone dear to us is missing from our company.

This year at Thanksgiving, Kathy and I joined her parents at my sister-in-law Carrie’s house. We didn’t have our 3 kids with us. It was a disappointment, but we didn’t let that drag us down. What we did have were two visiting Asian students, Angela from Hong Kong and Risako from Japan. They enjoyed their first Thanksgiving meal with us, followed by a rousing game of Uno. That day will become its own very special memory.

It’s good to cherish those special times.

Do you ever put extra pressure on yourself ...

Ever Been To Boise?

Want to freshen up your life a little?

Every month do something you’ve never done before. It can be anything, which leaves plenty of room for fun & creativity.

Sometimes Kathy and I will do something that one of us has done, but the other hasn’t yet.  So, once she took me to San Diego, and now I’m taking her to Boise. Don’t make a judgment on who got the better deal. Our brief road trip should capture some fall colors, plus sharing time & coffee with old friends… OK, my old friends, but she’s good with that.

Whether you plan on it or not... life is an adventure. You might as well make some of the decisions on how it’s going to play out.
