Christmas Lights - Photography Tip!

Happy Monday, friends! Did you have a great Thanksgiving? Are you cyber shopping, while you should be working? Each year, we head out bright and early the Saturday after Thanksgiving and roam the local Christmas tree farm in search of a tree that we all love. The kids take turns using the saw with Daddy, while I stand to the side, camera in hand. We walk back to the car, throw the tree on top and then head into the barn for some hot chocolate. We bring our steaming cups back to the car with us, trying not to spill along the way and then we drink it, while my husband ties that tree on. Read more...

Burlap Wreath

The holiday season is here and it is time to make our homes festive. While you are out and about shopping this weekend, stop by and pick up these supplies to make this burlap wreath that is versatile and can be used for many holidays throughout the year. I got all my supplies from hobby lobby. However, if you don't have a hobby lobby nearby, Michael's or Ben Franklin will work. This took me about an hour to complete. Read more...

Fun Fall Décor You can Make at Home

I have to confess, I’m not an extreme decorator. I love the seasons, the special holidays…I even love crafts! My problem? I rarely have time or I lack the energy for anything too terribly elaborate, especially during any kind of holiday season.  Read more...

Sunday Night Blues

This scenario may sound familiar- It’s Sunday evening at 8pm. After a busy weekend, you finally get your kid(s) down to bed and you make your way downstairs for some much needed relaxation. Once your feet hit the family room, you realize- the weekend is over and there is work to be done. Loads of laundry, toys to be picked up, a kitchen to clean, a car to vacuum so your carpooler doesn’t sit on dirt and other remnants from the weekend, the list is long. Each Sunday I think, why aren’t I more productive on the weekends? But I know the reason. Weekends are for family time, play-dates, perhaps a much needed trip to the gym, for fun! But, how can I balance both? This past weekend, I tried something different. And it worked. Read more...

Chores for Hire DIY

This project took me about five minutes to whip together and then I had to wait for a coat of spray paint to dry. It's quick and inexpensive and that's the way I like them. My husband and I have debated on putting actual cash in these clips vs. a ticket for $ or something but I'm leaning toward the instant gratification thing as a motivator. Read more...

Cinder Block Garden

I'm not very good at planting gardens or keeping plants alive. However, my husband and I thought it would be fun to try plant a garden so our son could watch things grow. Last year was the first year we did it. Our peas and beans did great. Our carrots...not so much! Read more...

Garden Décor Round-Up

I’ll be honest with you. I say that my family is big into gardening and outdoor living…but really, my husband is the one who does it all. I have grand intentions, but I also have a teeny problem with follow-through. In the spirit of those grand intentions, however, I’ve scoured the internet for some of my fave garden décor ideas – ones that are so cute and simple that even I could pull them off. Read more...

A Garden For Each Season of Life

As I think back on all the gardens I’ve grown, I realize that each one mirrored what was happening in my life at the time.  As I grew and changed, so did my gardens. Read more...

TOMATOGEDDON

My point. Our yard and garden is a work in progress and we only spend so much time on it among doing life with these busy kiddos. It's more about the feeling in our yard (cozy and welcoming) than about perfectly sculpted edges and such. It's a come as you are space and we like that. Read more...

A Lego to Stand On

Dinner preparation at the Slaney house looks like this: my wife feverishly cooks after a long day at work while I do my best to keep the kids from interrupting that process. The fewer the distractions, the sooner we’re able to come together and enjoy her delicious cooking.  We feel that coming together for a family dinner is really important.  That’s what brought about the need to creatively overcome an issue which had been disturbing me for quite some time:  our son’s Legos consuming half of our eating space.
