What Your Husband Really Wants for Fathers Day

Fathers Day is in 3 days. Have you made reservations at his favorite restaurant and ensured the kids’ craft projects are properly drying in a secret place so as not to spoil the surprise? Neither have I!

Let’s get the obvious out of the way…

I love my husband and know that he is the only person I want to be sharing this life. Our 11 month-old daughter lights up every time she looks at him. Our 3 year-old son is learning necessary life skills like how to properly throw and catch a ball. My husband washes dishes and does his own laundry…true story.

I am terrible some days of telling him how much I appreciate him. There are days when I nit-pick and obsess over things that really have no value. I mean, is it really that big of a deal if there is some dried food still stuck on the high chair from last night?

If your husband isn’t the type who is expecting the generic tie and BBQ grill set this Sunday, how about taking into consideration a few simple tips:

  • Hand made cards- Even if he is a Lumber Jack (that’s a manly occupation I thought of), his heart will melt a little when presented with something hand made from the kids. Just promise you won’t make him wear a macaroni necklace.
  • Chill out- You’re late for church. The parking lot is jammed.  The kids are being unruly. The house is messy. OH WELL. Make it your goal to relax just a little bit today. He will notice and it will rub off on him!
  • Get to his heart through his stomach- The truth is if you have very small children, your husband very well might not want to dine in public with them. It’s stressful! How about a picnic at Burger Master out on the lawn? You do not have to attend a formal brunch. There are no rules that say that’s mandatory.
  • It’s ok if he has some guy time- Don’t be disappointed if he wants to grab some time with some friends. In fact, maybe encourage it this weekend!
  • Verbally appreciate him! Guys are not good at reading signs or verbal cues. Make a strong effort specifically recognize him for something he does for you and the family.

What are you doing for the father of your kids on Sunday?
