My three-year old son put a Gillette razor in his mouth the other day.
Weren’t you watching your son?!?!?
Yes. I watched him put the razor in his mouth. Sheer terror overcame me in those .04 seconds as I whipped it out of his hand and fiercely examined him. He was fine. It was actually my forcing him to open his mouth and my tearful questioning of him that caused him to cry.
His response when I asked him what he was doing? He said he thought it was a toothbrush.
Once I calmed down and thanked God that everything was all right, I started to feel embarrassed.
How could I have let that happen?
As moms, the health and happiness of our kids is our number one priority. Even when we are not with them, they are present in our minds. When something happens to them, we blame ourselves even when it’s something out of our control.
When my son put the “toothbrush” in his mouth, it resulted in me feeling horrible and embarrassed because I felt like it was within my control and I still couldn’t stop it. I felt like such a bad mom! I didn’t want to tell anyone for fear that they would think I am a bad mom too. But, then I realized if these crazy moments are happening to me then I am pretty confident they happen to others too.
So, here I am sharing this with you with the hope that we can share these experiences together and support one another.
As a mom, you will have moments that scare you and moments that fill your heart with joy.
Just remember to keep your razors out of reach.
